North Las Vegas, Nevada – An 8-year-old North Las Vegas boy died last night after sustaining severe injury while playing with an automatic gate.

On March 3, 2015, just after 5:30 p.m., dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call reporting a young boy was stuck in an automatic vehicular gate at Goldfield Street and Newburg Avenue.

When officers arrived, medical was already treating him. They transported him to UMC Trauma where he was later pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation indicates the gate is an automatic vehicular gate designed to allow motoring traffic to exit the gated community. The boy was trying to crawl through a horizontal opening designed to allow the arm of the gate to pass through when the gate swings open.

Another child riding a bicycle rode over the sensor, activating the gate. The boy couldn’t pull himself out before he was crushed by the arm of the gate.

This investigation continues, but preliminary appears to be nothing more than a tragic accident.

The Clark County Coroner’s office will release the decedent’s identification and official cause of death.
