GASTONIA, North Carolina –A 78-year-man shot his adult son in the chest after he allegedly threatened to burn down the house.

According to WJZY, the son, Ralph Gregory Wilson, 52, poured lighter fluid on the couch at their home and threatened to burn the house down.

Then, he charged towards his father. The father, Ralph George Wilson, fired a shot and hit his son in the chest.

In the 911 call, the father calls his son “demon possessed.”

“It was either me or him,” Ralph George Wilson said in the call. “I am going to protect myself, I am tired of it.”

According to Wilson, his son is bipolar and schizophrenic. Wilson also says that his son tried to light him on fire the night before as well.

“He poured rubbing alcohol on me,” he said. “He got his lighter out and I got up and kind of talked easy to him.”

The DA’s office will decide if anyone faces charges for this incident.

The son was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Despite all of this, Wilson says he is standing by his son.

“I love him,” Wilson said. “I always will love him. He is just sick. He is mentally sick.”
