25-year-old NYPD officer Brian Moore had been in a coma since Saturday night after being shot in the head in an unmarked car in Queens.

He succumbed to his wounds and died Monday after hours of surgery for what court papers described as severe injuries to his skull and brain.

“This was nothing more and nothing less than a cold-blooded attempt at an assassination of New York’s finest,” Assistant District Attorney Peter McCormack said.

Demetrius Black is accused of firing at Moore and his partner as they sat in plainclothes in an unmarked police car Saturday night. They stopped Black after seeing him tugging at his waistband.

Black was ordered held without bail Sunday. He did not enter a plea to charges of attempted murder.

Prosecutors plan to present the case to a grand jury. If convicted, Black faces life in prison.
