The Niagara women’s basketball team has been stuck on the highway in its bus for nearly 26 hours because of a winter storm that dumped 4 feet of snow around Buffalo and killed four people.

The team was coming back late Monday night from Pittsburgh when they were stranded. In a phone interview with the AP, they said they have been in touch with the state police a few times, but haven’t had any help yet.

The team’s bus finally started moving early today, with the players eventually able to leave the bus after being stranded for more than 24 hours.

“They told us a few times that they’d be by with food and water but we haven’t seen them yet,” Faustin said. “We just heard on the news that they said all non-commercial stranded motorists have been rescued. Well apparently they missed us.” Read More: AP

One of the storm-related deaths was a vehicle accident, said Peter Anderson, a county executive.

Three others were cardiac arrests as a result of shoveling, said Peter Anderson, a spokesman for the county executive.

The snow left many people stranded in cars & turned roadways into parking lots. The storm even forced some emergency responders to rely on snowmobiles provided by volunteers.

It blanketed the area at a rate of 3 to 5 inches in one hour.
