TULSA, Oklahoma –The mother was changing her 1-year-old daughter’s diaper when the 3-year-old found a semiautomatic handgun under the couch.
The mother, 26, was pronounced dead late Monday afternoon about an hour after she was taken to a local hospital. Police Sgt. Dave Walker described the shooting as a “horrible horrible accident.” He said that the victim’s mother returned home to find her daughter badly wounded in a front room with the two children.
The 3 year-old boy told police he had pulled the trigger.
The weapon was a 9 mm Springfield handgun in a holster and had been placed on the nightstand.
