MERRITT ISLAND, Florida — The County Sheriff says, Rodney Patrick, 22, was rapping to a Waka Flocka Flame song when he picked up a gun he thought was unloaded and discharged the firearm.
The song, “Bustin At ‘Em,” features lyrics such as, “shoot first, ask questions last.”
17-year-old Douglas Winslow was killed.
Patrick initially told the 911 dispatcher that Winslow asked to see the gun and accidentally shot himself. Deputies said Patrick is the one who pulled the trigger.
He is being held without bond.
“We’ve got a gun being waved around. We’ve got the safety being clicked on and off, a loaded gun. A reasonable person knows or should know that action can result in somebody’s death,” said prosecutor Gary Beatty.
Patrick is also charged with tampering with evidence and possession of a controlled substance.
He faces 25 years to life if convicted.
