Israel Bombs Gaza Militants After Rocket Hits Southern Israel

Israel aircraft bombed a Hamas militant base in the Gaza Strip late Friday night in response to a rocket launched earlier in the day, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said.

Israeli bombs hit the Khan Younis area in the south of the Gaza Strip. Hospital officials nearby said that there were no casualties. The rocket fired earlier by Hamas landed in a field in southern Israel and also caused no casualties.

Friday’s airstrike marks the first move made by the IDF since the end of the war in that territory and was in response to a rocket launched by Hamas.

The strikes landed in the Khan Younis area in the southern Gaza Strip. Hospital officials near by said that there were no casualties. The rocket fired earlier by Hamas landed in a field in southern Israel and also caused no casualties.

“The IDF [military] will not permit any attempt to undermine the security and jeopardize the well being of the civilians of Israel. The Hamas terrorist organization is responsible and accountable for today’s attack against Israel,” military spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Lerner said in a statement.

There earlier cases of Hamas rockets launched into Israel have been recorded but there was no retaliation to them.
