The co-pilot of the crashed GermanWings aircraft, 28-year-old Andreas Guenter Lubitz, of Germany appears to have crashed the plane deliberately, prosecutors say.

Prosecutor Brice Robin said in a news conference that Lubitz’s “intention was to destroy this plane”.

The NYT reported yesterday that pounding was heard on the cockpit door during the last few minutes of the flight.

Lubitz locked his captain out out of the cockpit after the senior officer left the flight deck.

From The Daily Mail:

Prosecutors … said Lubitz ‘voluntarily’ refused to open the door, adding that his breathing was normal throughout the final minutes of the flight.

He said: ‘His breath was not of somebody who was struggling. He never said a single word. It was total silence in the cockpit for the ten past minutes. Nothing.’

Officials stress this is still not a Terrorism incident.

Investigators do not know a motive why the suspect would’ve wanted to kill all 150 people on board the Airbus A320, including himself.

The Daily Mail reported he was suffering from depression, mental health problems.

This story is developing.
