There is a large protest in Brooklyn going on right now at 2724 Linden Blvd. It started at 7:00PM. Protesters are demanding justice over the killing of Akai Gurley – an unarmed black man, who was shot and killed the NYPD on Thursday night. The NYPD says it was an “accidental discharge”.

Dear comrades, family, and friends:
Akai Gurley–another unarmed black man murdered by the racist #NYPD. Akai, 28 years old, was gunned down in a stairwell in the Pink Houses on Linden Blvd. in East New York on Thursday night. We write for two reasons: (1) as NYC Solidarity for Palestine we offer our condolences to the parents, family and friends of Akai and (2) we hereby announce that we will be postponing our Solidarity Open Mic scheduled for today. Our black brothers and sisters have never had their human dignity respected in this country. We know that black lives don’t matter to the police just like we know Palestinian lives don’t matter to the Israeli colonial forces. So, today we stand together by postponing our event that we worked hard on to take our bodies and our love and rage to the streets.
We apologize to the many folks who were looking forward to our 2nd open mic. Just remember that our open mics are meant to facilitate a space to strengthen our communities of resistance; to learn from each other; and to connect #Ferguson and #Detroit to #Ayotzinapa and #Palestine. This is because we know that in the end our liberation is either collective or it is non-existent. Our expressions of solidarity strengthen the bonds that can propel us in our fight for justice. And the outrageous murder of another human demands that we take action today and answer the call for solidarity in the manner it was requested.
