A fire burned part of the Eric Garner memorial on Staten Island Monday night.
“Candles under plexiglass caused the fire and damaged the memorial,” a police source told NY Daily News.
The memorial marking the spot where Eric Garner died while in an NYPD officer’s choke hold caught fire on Monday night.
Whether or not the cause of the fire will be investigated is not known.
Daughter Erica Garner wrote on Twitter that she believed the memorial was intentionally burned down.
