Edward Cardinal Egan, Archbishop-emeritus of NY, Dies at 82

    NEW YORK, New York — Edward Michael Egan died after lunch today. Cardinal Egan was pronounced dead at NYU Langone Medical Center at 2:20 p.m. The cause of death was cardiac arrest, officials said.

    Egan was an American Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Bishop of Bridgeport from 1988 to 2000, and as Archbishop of New York from 2000 to 2009. He was elevated to the cardinalate in 2001.
