BREAKING: SF Police Arrest Suspect After Body Parts Found In Suitcase

San Francisco, Calif. —  San Francisco PD detained a person of interest in the case of a suitcase stuffed with body parts found in a downtown street earlier this week, a source close to the investigation tells NBC Bay Area.

EARLIER REPORT:

11th and Market — Police confirm that the suspicious package is a suitcase that contains body parts.

After Officials found the suitcase, investigators began a search of the area.

Investigators said they were actively searching for a suspect and had a rough description of a possible suspect, but did not give any more information, the paper reported.

Police found more body parts, but they would not say what they were or where they were found, SFGate reported.

The area is a block from Twitter headquarters and part of an emerging tech corridor.

The suitcase contained “dismembered body parts of a human being” whose race and gender were unknown. The remains found inside the suitcase were so mutilated, police couldn’t figure out if it was a human or an animal, police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan told the paper.

Officers responded just before 4:15 p.m. to near Mission and 11th streets after a suspicious package was reported, said police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan.

11th street has been closed, from Market to Mission streets, to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic for the police investigtion.

Police say there is a suspect, but are not releasing any information about that person.

The suspect is not in custody.
