KANSAS CITY — The Uniformed Deputy was off-duty at the time of the shooting. He was inside the  7-Eleven at 4400 Shawnee Drive around 1 a.m., getting something to eat, when he was shot several times.

The Deputy was rushed to emergency surgery and is listed as critical. His name has not been released.

Up to four suspects fled the scene and two were apprehended. Police believe it was a robbery attempt at the store and the suspects are linked to other robberies in the area.

7-Eleven issued a statement about the shooting Wednesday afternoon.

“7-Eleven is appalled at the senseless shooting of an innocent law-enforcement officer who was off-duty during the course of last night’s robbery. We are working closely with the investigating police department and have provided our surveillance video and other evidence to assist them in identifying the suspects,” the statement said. “Also, we are working with the on-duty 7-Eleven store employee. While he was injured, fortunately, it was not bad enough for him to go to the hospital. We have offered to provide counseling if he desires. “
