TUCSON, Ariz. – Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a Mexican national Feb. 23 in connection to a failed attempt to smuggle more than 23 pounds of heroin and methamphetamine through the Port of Nogales.
Officers and a CBP narcotics-detection canine at the Dennis DeConcini crossing searched a Ford truck belonging to Mauricio Ozuna-Mejia, 42, of Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico. During the search, officers removed nearly seven pounds of heroin, worth more than $97,000, and more than 16 pounds of meth, valued in excess of $49,000, from the vehicle’s rear doors.
Officers processed the vehicles and drugs for seizure, and referred Ozuna to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
