BROOKLYN: Cops Open Fire On Suspect Shooting Into The Air

Housing Impact Police Officers arrested a man Friday night for possession of a firearm after they observed him firing the gun. The officers were on foot patrol at 360 Dumont Avenue (Tilden Houses), within the confines of Brooklyn’s 73 Precinct, where they heard gunshots being fired.
As the officers investigated, they encountered a 32-year-old man with a firearm in his hand, in a parking lot in the rear of 345 Livonia Avenue (Van Dyke Houses). The officers then observed the man fire his gun into the air. As they approached the suspect, the officers gave verbal commands for the suspect to drop the weapon. The male then turned towards the officers, with firearm in hand. One officer discharged two rounds from his service weapon, not striking the suspect. The suspect then fled through the housing development.
The officers chased the man and transmitted the incident, as well as the direction of flight over their department radios to responding officers. Officers apprehended the suspect outside of 392 Blake Avenue. A loaded and defaced .32 caliber RG Industries revolver was recovered in the rear of 392 Dumont Avenue, along with the suspect’s jacket. The officers were removed to Jamaica Hospital for tinnitus, where they were treated and released.
The following individual was arrested and charged: Deval, Joseph – 31-year-old  – Brooklyn, NY
Charges: Assault (2 counts) – Criminal Possession of a Weapon- Loaded Firearm – Criminal Use of a Firearm -Reckless Endangerment – Menacing (2 counts)
