UPDATE: Siege of Al-Shabab Terrorists In Somali Hotel Continues 12 Hours Later

Mogadishu, SOMALIA — At least eight people are dead and dozens are injured after Al-Shabab terrorists stormed the Maka al-Mukarama hotel, a popular destination for tourists.

A suicide bomber blew himself up at the gates, according to local media reports.

The group has taken hostages, executed some, according to Sputnik news.

Mogadishu News says Yuusuf Bari-Bari, Somalia’s ambassador to Switzerland, is among those injured in the attack.

Gunfire was heard inside the hotel, believed to be executions, according to reports from the scene.

Somalia’s US-trained anti-terrorism unit, Gaashaan, and members of the African Union Mission to Somalia have surrounded the building.

Mogadishu, known locally as Xamar, is the largest city in Somalia and the nation’s capital.

Located in the coastal Banaadir region on the Indian Ocean, the city has served as an important port for centuries.
