MURFREESBORO, Tennessee — Ron Aydelott, Head Football coach for Riverdale High School has been hospitalized after being assaulted by a student Tuesday morning.

According to WKRN, the 17-year-old student entered to coach’s Office to ask about trying out for the team… Somehow the situation escalated and the teen jumped on top of the coach, assaulting him.

“We’re just in total shock. (the coach) basically just got attacked. The kid just went nuts on him. Coach Aydelott was sitting down at his desk and the guy just kept whaling on him.”

A school resource officer was eventually able to pull the student off of the victim.

“He finally stopped,” said Nolan. “The kid then walked into the office, put his hands behind his back and surrendered.”

Mr. Aydelott was rushed to the Emergency Room suffering from trauma to the face. He could need surgery.

The student has been arrested, identity withheld  because the suspect is a minor, WSMV reported. It’s unclear what sparked the incident.
