ATLANTA, Ga. — Hill was executed at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Center in Jackson at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday night.

The execution was carried out after the US Supreme Court denied Hill’s petition for a stay of execution.

Hill’s lawyers argued he is intellectually disabled, which would prevent him from being put to death under a 2002 Supreme Court decision.

They said he was unable to demonstrate his disability because of Georgia’s toughest-in-the-nation standard for proving intellectual disability.

Hill was sentenced to death for the fatal beating of a fellow inmate in 1990. He was already serving a life sentence for murdering his girlfriend five years earlier.

His lethal injection was first scheduled in 2012 and has been postponed three times for various appeals.
