On Sunday at approximately 10:30 AM, NY State Police from Ellenville responded to a fatal motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 209 and Nevele Dr in the Town of Wawarsing.
The seven occupants of the van, all members of a church in Brooklyn, had been attending a religious retreat at the Honors Haven Resort in Ellenville. As the van attempted to enter Route 209 from Nevele Dr, it was struck in the passenger side by a tractor trailer traveling on Route 209.
As a result of the collision, three occupants of the van were killed. The driver of the van and an additional passenger were airlifted to Westchester Medical Center for treatment. The remaining two passangers of the van along with the driver of the tractor trailer were transported by ambulance to Ellenville Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The accident remains under investigation with the assistance of the Troop F Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.
