NORTH NASHVILLE, Tennessee — The victim, 15-year-old DaVontae Ziegler was shot outside his home. He later died at a local hospital.
The 11-year-old shooter, who has not been named, has been charged with homicide.
The two boys were friends and police believe the shooting may have been an accident.
“The young man who fired the shot was very concerned about the victim’s welfare and ran to check on him before he fled the immediate scene,” Metro police spokesman Don Aaron said.
The victim’s aunt told WSMV that DaVontae was shoveling snow in the driveway Friday when the gun carried by the 11-year-old went off.
DaVontae sang in the church choir and played running back.
